Levi Watkins Learning Center
I chose to do my project on the Levi Watkins Learning Center located on Alabama State University’s campus. The library is open to all students, faculty, and staff who are following the mask mandatory guidelines. This building was created in 1977 to support the academic needs of students. However, in 2011 the buliding reopened after a two-year 20 million renovation that increased the square feet by nearly fifty percent.
I chose to do my project on the library because I love going to the library and getting my work done. The pandemic has shifted the amount of people who visit to be less frequent and I honestly do not mind. Before the pandemic, I found that some people would go to the library to hang out and fool around being disruptive and careless. Now, I find that most people are working on their homework and respectfully adhering to the mask mandate. The library is huge and allows plenty of space to spread out and find your own favorite corner. I especially love that there is a cafe, Starbucks, that encourages you to try out refreshing drinks or coffee if you need a boost of energy.
